WASHINGTON, D.C. — Conner Antley’s recent emergence as a pivotal figure for D.C. United has been nothing short of inspirational. His first MLS goal—an emotional, hard-fought header against FC Cincinnati—was more than just a stat on the scoresheet. It was a testament to perseverance, grit, and the enduring power of belief.
In a heartfelt post-match press conference, Antley reflected on his long road back from an ACL injury—an experience he described as both grueling and transformative.
“Nobody really knows what goes into the rehab and the recovery unless you’ve done it,” Antley said.
The goal, for him, was the culmination of countless solitary hours at the training facility, family sacrifices, and a reminder of why the struggle was worth it. His wife, children, and especially his twin brother were key emotional pillars throughout the process.
Head coach Troy Lesesne’s playful “undersized” comment—meant tactically—became an inside joke. Antley laughed it off:
“I'll be called that for the rest of the year,” he said, clearly appreciating the trust Lesesne placed in him for key matchups.
Antley also emphasized the rising importance of set pieces in modern MLS play.
“They’re huge,” he noted. “While we didn’t drill that exact play, the preparation by coaches Zach and Cody to attack the back post really paid off.”
With D.C. United preparing to face Chicago Fire amid international call-ups and injuries, Antley stressed the team’s “next man up” mentality:
“It’s about the 11 guys on the field. We really have to step up and get a result.”
The match at Audi Field offers a chance for fresh contributors to make their mark, backed by one of the most passionate fanbases in the league.
His efforts didn’t go unnoticed—Antley was named to the MLS Team of the Week. He remained humble:
“It’s never just the individual. I wouldn’t be on there without the guys around me.”
Following the match, Antley was flooded with support—over 50 messages and calls. In the locker room, he FaceTimed his wife and brothers to share the joy.
“That moment wasn’t just mine—it was ours,” he said.
He credited his wife for holding down the household during his recovery, managing life with three children while providing unwavering emotional support.
As the club looks to climb the Eastern Conference table, Antley had a message for fans:
“We’re a team that never stops fighting. We feel and hear you when you're in the stadium with us. Your energy truly makes a difference.”
Conner Antley’s journey is no longer about a comeback. It’s about momentum, leadership, and rising to the moment—again and again.
Conner will lead the back line this Saturday, June 6th, when the Black-and-red host the Chicago Fire FC for matchday 18. They are looking to continue their unbeaten streak to three games, having tied against New England at home and defeated Cincinnati FC away.
